Boating Safety on Lake Conroe

Safe Boating Starts Before You Leave the Dock

Whether you're brand new to boating or have spent years on the water, boating safely is everyone's responsibility. Knowing the navigation rules, understanding weather conditions, and carrying the proper safety equipment can help prevent accidents and make every trip more enjoyable.

At YOLO Lake Conroe, we're committed to helping boaters gain the knowledge and confidence they need to enjoy Lake Conroe safely.

Who Needs a Boater Education Certificate?

In Texas, anyone born on or after September 1, 1993, who operates certain motorized vessels must complete an approved boater education course before operating alone.

Boaters should also carry required safety equipment, including:

  • U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets

  • Fire extinguisher (when required)

  • Sound-producing device

  • Navigation lights for nighttime operation

  • Proper registration documentation

Common Causes of Boating Accidents

The most common boating incidents involve:

  • Operator inattention

  • Excessive speed

  • Inexperience

  • Alcohol use

  • Improper lookout

  • Weather conditions

  • Equipment failure

Most of these situations can be reduced through proper training and preparation.

Life Jackets Save Lives

Wear It. Don't Just Bring It.

Life jackets are one of the simplest ways to improve safety on the water. Every person onboard should have access to a properly fitting U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket, and children should always wear one while underway as required by law.
